About 6 years ago, I dreamed of creating a platform that is very similar to what Simily is trying to do. The #1 obstacle I ran into was the inability to secure funding on an unproven concept. Without a tech co-founder, the project was dead in the water. So I completely get what they are up against.
Having a timeline and making it more of a social media site is what I like about it, and where they have the best opportunity to truly differentiate themselves. But building it on WordPress, as I mentioned over on Simily, is going to be a decision they regret. I don't have the same amount of WordPress experience as you, but I have enough to know it is not the platform for this site.
Great article, but I fear most of the people complaining won't read this or understand enough of it to see how this choice is causing most of their problems.
